Jones trains alongside her boyfriend Koko. Bo Boosey was previously working in Jones's corner but is not for this fight. Jones is a world champion and Olympic bronze medalist. Jones is known in Atlanta. Jones is the IBF IBO super welterweight world champion. Jones said she was going to make this a technical fight and didn't want to brawl with Carranza. Jones fought a lot from the distance and did good work on the inside. Jones did a lot of pull counters, double jabs, came inside and landed straight lefts.

Carranza is from Miami. Carranza has custom gloves with Puerto Rican design. Carranza works a full-time job as a police officer with 12-hour shifts serving the community. Carranza is rated number two in the IBF and WBA (Всемирная боксёрская ассоциация). Carranza is a decorated amateur who has been fighting since she was a kid. Carranza is awkward, slick, and not a textbook fighter. Carranza was landing shots but they weren't turned over, might not have been in the right position or balance to put enough torque on it.
