Cuesta is competing in her 26th professional bout. Cuesta is dedicating tonight's performance to her late brother Paul Cuesta, who passed away last month at the age of 39. Cuesta is the daughter of professional boxer Chico Valenzuela who scored a knockdown against Oscar De La Hoya in 1993. Cuesta had a rough patch a couple of years ago where she was winless in four out of five fights. Cuesta is 35 years old. Cuesta is fighting in memory of her late brother Paul Cuesta.

The referee ruled the cut as caused by a punch, meaning if the fight is stopped due to the cut, it would be a knockout win for Lozada. An accidental clash of heads occurred between the fighters, causing a cut on Cuesta. Another clash of heads occurred during the fight with Lozada getting the worst of it. Lozada is clearly up on the scorecards with two rounds left in the fight. The referee was being verbal about holding but not deducting points, unlike in a previous fight where two points were deducted for holding. The bout took place at the State Farm Arena in downtown Atlanta, home of the Atlanta Hawks.
