Valenzuela's father is a retired former super middleweight who retired in 2021 at the age of 48. Valenzuela is fighting his seventh undefeated opponent. Valenzuela's father, Roberto Valenzuela Sr., fought 161 times as a pro with 56 knockout wins. Valenzuela's last two losses came to future 154-pound title holders Bakram Murtazaliev and Xander Zayas. Valenzuela was stopped by Zayas in the fifth round. Two of Valenzuela's five losses have come against current title holders Xander Zayas and Murtazaliev, and both fighters asked him to join their camps afterwards to spar.
